Hallucinogens are mood-changing drugs with psychological effects. LSD or “acid,” is sold as tablets, capsules, liquid, or on absorbent paper. PCP is illegally manufactured as tablets, capsules or colored powder and can be snorted, smoked or eaten. Other hallucinogens can come in many forms, including plants and cough suppressants.

Hallucinogens alter your brain, affecting movement, reactions, thinking, hearing and seeing, time perception and reality.

  • Hallucinogens affect your self-control and emotions. You lose control of your muscles and do aggressive or violent things and make you confused, paranoid and disoriented.

  • Hallucinogens powerfully affect the brain, distorting senses and make it hard to differentiate between reality and hallucination.

  • Hallucinogens increase your heart rate and blood pressure leading to heart and lung failure, causing coma or even death. At low to moderate doses, PCP use causes shallow breathing, flushing and sweating, numbness of the extremities and loss of muscular coordination.
