Just For Parents

As a parent it is up to you to make an impression on your kids so that they don’t have to experiment with tobacco and/or smoking.

  • Make the effects of tobacco and smoking seem more real to fight the “I’m young and nothing can hurt me” mentality. Do this by talking early and often about your feelings on smoking and tobacco and the risks.
  • Make the conversation interactive, by welcoming your kid’s questions and comments.
  • Watch for signs of tobacco use in your child including change in behavior, his/her friends use tobacco products, smoke smell on your child’s clothes or breath and smoked butts, ashtrays, spit bottles, stained teeth, tobacco particles on teeth and/or mouth sores.
