Does My Friend Have A Problem?

Does your friend have one or more of these problems? If so, it is probably time you have a talk with them and tell their parents. See “How To Help” for more information on how to talk to your friend about their problem.

  • Gets drunk on a regular basis
  • Drinks when he/she is alone
  • Shows up to school drunk or has skipped class to drink alcohol
  • Needs alcohol to have a good time or cope with everyday life
  • Starts hanging out with new friends who will drink with him or her or can get him/her alcohol
  • Lies about alcohol use
  • Has broken plans with you, or showed up late, because he/she was getting drunk
  • Shows little interest in, or quits activities or sports, he/she once enjoyed
  • Has driven drunk
  • Borrows or steals money to buy alcohol

 

 

The APNA 2008 Survey conducted in the Benton County Schools reveals the prevalence of underage drinking vs. the Arkansas state average.

At Home WITH Parents Permission:

  • 6th grade 28.6% / state average 20.7%
  • 8th grade 23.4% / state average 16.4%
  • 10th grade 15.2% / state average 12.5%
  • 12th grade 12.4% / state average 9.0%

At Home:

  • 6th grade 51.5% / state average 49.3%
  • 8th grade 45.6% / state average 41.2%
  • 10th grade 30.1% / state average 27.9%
  • 12th grade 25.2% / state average 20.6%
